Blown transformers, fallen limbs Madison issue

Blown transformers and fallen limbs have caused power outages in Madison, Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler said Thursday morning.

Approximately 2,328 city of Madison residents are among 5,740 Entergy customers in Madison County who lost power overnight Wednesday, officials said.

“Entergy is working diligently to restore power,” she said in a Facebook post about 8 a.m. “Thank you to all who are braving the cold to protect and serve our city.”

Madison Public Works has worked throughout the night to clear the streets, she said.

“They have worked diligently to make sure our water wells stay in service and they have dealt with power outages to our lift stations,” the mayor said.

The Madison Fire Department is making wellness checks and is ready to go when called, she said.

“Our police will continue to maintain high visibility throughout our community,” she assured residents.

“Madison the city is in good hands and we ask for your prayers. God bless you all.”

In another post on Madison The City’s Facebook page, the city said Waste Management would not be collecting garbage on Thursday due to severe weather conditions.

Madison had a temperature of 28 degrees at approximately 9 a.m. Thursday with the day’s low set for 21 degrees with a hazy overcast. Friday’s high is projected to be 36 with a low of 16 and partly cloudy skies.
