Bayou Bugs now open thru the year
Formerly a seasonal hangout, Bayou Bugs transitioned to a year-round restaurant with a grand opening earlier this month unveiling a full menu, char-grilled oysters and their signature crawfish.
Owners Ryan and Arin Angelo said they are introducing their new “shells and tails” concept where they will serve oysters prepared a number of ways and boiled crawfish when it is in season.
“Our charbroiled oysters are going to be a hit,” Ryan Angelo said.
In addition to the charbroiled oysters, Bayou Bugs offers a selection of specialty raw oysters all year. He said having a non seasonal item like the oysters was the key keeping their restaurant open all year.
Bayou Bugs is in its fifth year of operation. The Angelos have established themselves as a weekend hangout where they boil crawfish every weekend from February to May.
Ryan Angelo said this is a plan that has been about two years in the making. They have always served Cajun food out of their food truck during the months Bayou Bugs was open and are happy to finally give that menu a permanent home.
“We always sold more food here,” he said. “We are looking forward to serving both concepts.”
The restaurant now features lunch and dinner menus and includes favorites from the food truck like poboys and their top-selling appetizer the kicking crab egg rolls.
“We are ready to be selling food again,” he said.
When they opened for this crawfish season, the Angelos unveiled a new dining room with large windows and garage doors that keep the porch party atmosphere intact.
“We are feeling good,” Arin Angelo said. “We are excited to be open year round.”
To join the party meet the Angelos at 134 Weisenberger Road from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Go to bayoubugs.net for more information.
