Multiple local baseball and softball teams are in the thick of postseason play and are progressing further, in hopes of competing for a state championship.
Madison Central baseball took an 8-0 win in the deciding game three of their first round playoff series with DeSoto Central on Tuesday night, improving to 21-7 on the season. The Jaguars will open their second round series with Oxford on Friday at Madison Central, with first pitch set for 7 PM.
Madison Central softball swept their first round playoff series over Oxford, winning 7-2 and 4-0, improving to 15-10-1 on the year. The Lady Jaguars will open their second round series with Clinton on Wednesday, with results unavailable at print time.
Germantown softball lost two of three against Lewisburg in the first round of the MHSAA 7A playoffs, finishing their season with an 18-10 record.
Ridgeland baseball was swept in two one-run losses in their first round series with Grenada, finishing the season with a 9-14 record.
Canton baseball was swept by Corinth in their first round playoff series, finishing their season with a 10-7 record.
St. Andrew’s baseball lost two of three to Clarkdale in the second round of the MHSAA 2A playoffs, finishing the season with a 22-11 record.
MRA baseball finished the regular season with a sweep over St. Joseph, improving to 20-12 on the season. The Patriots have a first round bye in the MAIS 6A playoffs and will play the winner of St. Joseph-PCS.

Canton Academy fell 10-2 to Marshall Academy in the second round of the MAIS 4A North tournament, finishing the season with a 13-15 record.
