Local baseball and softball teams are preparing to make deep playoff runs, as postseason play begins for MHSAA schools this week.
Madison Central baseball finished their regular season with a 13-2 win over West Marion and 12-1 over Terry, improving to 19-6 on the season. The Jaguars enter the postseason as the one-seed out of Region 2-7A and will play a best-of-three series against DeSoto Central, with game one set for Friday at 7 PM at Madison Central.
Madison Central softball clinched the Region 2-7A regular season title with a 3-2 win over Germantown and 10-0 win over Starkville, finishing the regular season with a 13-10-1 record. The Lady Jaguars will play a first round series against Oxford, with game one set for Thursday at 6 PM at Madison Central.
Ridgeland baseball fell 12-7 in their regular season finale to Pearl, moving to 9-12 on the season. The Titans will play Grenada in the first round of the 6A state tournament, with game one set for Friday at 7 PM at Grenada.
Ridgeland softball finished the regular season with a 4-13 record. The Lady Titans will play South Panola in the first round of the MHSAA 6A state tournament, with game one set for Wednesday at 5 PM at South Panola.
Canton baseball finished the regular season with a 16-1 region loss to Cleveland Central, moving to 10-5 on the season. The Tigers finished as the two-seed in Region 2-5A and will play Corinth in a first round series, with game one set for Friday at 7 PM at Corinth.
Canton softball saw their season come to an end, finishing the season with a 2-6 record.
St. Andrew’s baseball took a 9-3 win over Loyd Star in game three of their first round series of the MHSAA 2A state tournament, improving to 21-9 on the season. The Saints will play Clarkdale in their second round series, with game one set for Thursday at Clarkdale at 7 PM.

MRA baseball took two out of three from Hartfield Academy last week and opened their final regular season series with a 10-5 win over St. Joseph, improving to 18-12 on the season. The Patriots will finish their series with St. Joseph on Thursday and Friday.
St. Joseph baseball took one out of three from Jackson Academy last week and opened their final regular season series with a 10-5 loss to MRA, moving to 10-17 on the season. The Bruins will finish their series with MRA on Thursday and Friday.
Jackson Prep baseball took one of three from Presbyterian Christian last week, moving to 17-12-1 on the season. The Patriots will play a three-game series against Jackson Academy to finish the regular season on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Jackson Academy baseball took two of three from St. Joseph last week, moving to 17-10 on the year. The Raiders will finish the regular season with a three-games series against Jackson Prep on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Tri-County Academy baseball finished the regular season by taking two out of three from Riverfield Academy, moving to 22-4 on the season. The Rebels have a first round bye in the MAIS 4A South Regional tournament and will play the winner of Centreville Academy-Central Hinds in the second round next week.
Canton Academy baseball finished the regular season with a 13-14 record and had a first round bye in the MAIS 4A North Regional tournament. The Panthers will play a best-of-three series against Marshall Academy in the second round.
