Local baseball and softball teams are in the thick of region and district play, with multiple teams having successful weeks on the diamond.
MRA baseball won two out of three games against Presbyterian Christian last week, before falling 6-2 to Jackson Academy in their series opener on Tuesday, moving to 13-11 on the season. The Patriots will wrap up their series with Jackson Academy with games Thursday and Friday.
St. Joseph baseball was swept by Jackson Prep in their three-game district series last week and lost 8-1 to Presbyterian Christian in their series opener, falling to 9-11 on the season. The Bruins will play a home doubleheader against PCS on Friday to complete the series.
Jackson Academy baseball was swept by Hartfield Academy last week in a district series, but bounced back to take a 6-2 win in the district opener over MRA on Tuesday, moving to 15-7 on the season. The Raiders will complete the series with MRA on Thursday and Friday.
Jackson Prep baseball swept a three-game district series over St. Joseph last week, before falling 8-6 to Hartfield Academy in their series opener, improving to 16-8-1 on the season. The Patriots will complete the series with Hartfield Academy on Thursday and Friday of this week.
Tri-County Academy baseball continued their dominant season with a three-game sweep over Central Hinds Academy, outscoring their opponent 39-2 in the series. The Rebels also picked up a 20-0 win over Clinton Christian in their series opener and are now 18-3 on the season. TCA will complete their series with Clinton Christian with a home doubleheader on Friday.
Canton Academy baseball swept a three-game district series over Oak Hill Academy, but fell 11-4 to Winston Academy in this week’s series, improving to 11-13 on the season. The Panthers will complete the series with Winston Academy on Thursday and Friday.
Madison Central baseball split a region series with Clinton and took wins over Newton County and Germantown over the last week, improving to 16-5 on the season. The Jaguars will travel to Germantown on Friday and Northwest Rankin on Saturday to round out the week.
Madison Central softball lost 3-2 to Clinton and 8-3 to Northwest Rankin, falling to 10-8-1 on the season. The Lady Jaguars will play at home against Clinton on Wednesday and Pisgah on Saturday.
Germantown baseball beat Quitman 17-2 and fell 5-2 to Madison Central over the last week, moving to 11-12 on the season. The Mavericks will finish their region series with Madison Central at home on Friday.
Germantown softball fell 8-6 to Tupelo, but defeated Pisgah 7-4 to move to 15-7 on the season. The Lady Mavericks host a region game against Starkville on Friday to round out the week.
Ridgeland baseball lost 3-0 to Neshoba Central and 8-3 to Warren Central in region matchups, moving to 8-8 on the season. The Titans will play at home against Warren Central on Friday and Pearl on Saturday.
Ridgeland softball went 2-2 on the week, beating Columbus 31-20 and 35-23 and losing to Richland and Vicksburg, moving to 4-10 on the season. The Lady Titans will round out the week with a home game against Warren Central on Thursday.
Canton baseball defeated Gentry 10-1 and lost 7-3 to Cleveland Central, moving to 7-4 on the season. The Tigers will take on Gentry on Thursday and Yazoo City on Friday.
St. Andrew’s baseball is on a nine-game winning streak and defeated Terry, Pelahatchie, Yazoo County, and Raleigh over the last week, moving to 18-6 on the season. The Saints will travel to Raleigh on Friday and Clinton on Saturday to round out the week.

Velma Jackson baseball swept a region series against McAdams and were swept by Nanih Waiya, moving to 2-9 on the season.
