Baseball and Softball Weekly Roundup
Local baseball and softball teams have begun district and region play, with multiple schools picking up key wins to put themselves at the top of the standings early on.
Madison Central baseball picked up a sweep over Starkville last week, a 2-1 win over Ridgeland, and an 18-14 win over Tupelo on Tuesday, moving to 13-3 on the season. The Jaguars will host Tupelo on Friday and West Lauderdale on Saturday.
Madison Central softball fell 3-0 to Hernando last week, but also picked up wins over Ridgeland and Germantown to move to 9-5-1 on the season. The Lady Jaguars will travel to Starkville on Thursday.
Germantown baseball split a region series with Clinton, along with earning a 9-0 win over Terry and a 2-1 win over Starkville, improving to 10-9 on the year. The Mavericks will travel to Starkville on Friday and Northwest Rankin on Saturday.
Germantown softball won three region games last week over Clinton, Tupelo, and Starkville, before falling to Madison Central, moving to 12-6 on the season. The Lady Mavericks will travel to Clinton on Thursday and North Pike on Friday.
Ridgeland baseball went 3-1 over the last week, picking up two wins over Vicksburg, a win over Murrah, and a loss to Madison Central, improving to 6-6 on the year. The Titans will host Columbus on Thursday and West Jones on Saturday.
Canton baseball fell 14-11 to Greenville last week, dropping to 5-2 on the season. The Tigers will host Holmes County Central on Friday.
St. Andrew’s baseball went 3-1 over the last week picking up wins over Bogue Chitto, French Camp Academy, and Puckett, along with a loss to Loyd Star, moving to 12-6 on the year. The Saints will travel to Puckett on Friday and host Lawrence County on Saturday.
MRA baseball fell 5-0 to Warren Central and 8-5 to Jackson Prep over the last week, dropping to 9-9 on the season. The Patriots will play Jackson Prep twice more this week, playing at home on Thursday and on the road on Friday.
St. Joseph baseball fell 14-10 to Enterprise and 10-0 to Hartfield Academy over the last week, dropping to 9-6 on the season. The Bruins will play two more games against Hartfield Academy this week, at home on Thursday and on the road on Friday.
Jackson Prep baseball beat Canton Academy 7-4 and MRA 8-5, along with falling 8-7 to Kosciuscko last week, moving to 12-5-1 on the season. The Patriots will play MRA two more times this week, Thursday on the road and Friday at home.
Jackson Academy baseball beat Manchester Academy 15-7 and fell 4-2 to Presbyterian Christian over the last week, moving to 13-3 on the season. The Raiders will play a doubleheader against PCS on the road on Friday.
Tri-County Academy picked up a 5-3 win over Copiah Academy and a 5-1 win over Canton Academy on Saturday, improving to 14-3 on the season. The Rebels are not scheduled to play again until Monday at home against Central Hinds Academy.
Canton Academy baseball fell to Jackson Prep and Tri-County Academy, but picked up a 15-0 district win over Carroll Academy over the last week, moving to 6-12 on the season. The Panthers will take on Carroll Academy away on Thursday and at home again on Friday.
