Baseball and softball season off to fast start for local teams

Baseball and softball season is off to a fast start in the Madison County area and here are a few teams who are off to hot starts so far this year. 

Madison Central baseball currently sits at 8-2 and picked up an 8-0 win over Warren Central and fell 3-1 to Collierville (TN) last week. The Jaguars are playing in a tournament in Mobile, Alabama this week during spring break.

Madison Central softball holds a 6-2 record and won 10-9 over region foe Tupelo last week. The Lady Jaguars will play in Gulfport this week for spring break, playing St. Benedict and North Pike on Thursday and Puckett and Picayune on Friday. 

Germantown softball is off to an 8-4 start, picking up a win over Warren Central and two wins over Vicksburg last week. The Lady Mavericks will play in a tournament at West Lauderdale over the weekend. 

Canton baseball holds a 4-1 record, including a 10-5 win over Provine last week. The Tigers are off for spring break this week and will open region play on Tuesday against Holmes County Central. 

St. Andrew’s baseball is off to a 7-5 start this season, but opened region play last week with two losses to Pisgah. However, the Saints did bounce back with wins over West Marion and Sacred Heart, before falling 11-1 to Escambia (FL) on Friday as a part of their annual spring break trip. The Saints will wrap up the spring break week on Wednesday against McGill-Toolen (AL). 

Jackson Prep baseball has started the season with a 10-3-1 record and is currently playing in Biloxi for spring break. The Patriots tied with Ocean Springs after the game was postponed, beat Starkville 9-5, and fell 7-0 to Second Baptist (TX). Jackson Prep will round out the week with a matchup against South Panola, before opening district play next week against Hartfield Academy. 

MRA baseball currently sits at 8-6 to begin the year and are currently playing in Biloxi for Spring Break. The Patriots beat Starkville 12-3, fell 3-2 to Center Hill, and are playing East Union on Wednesday to round out the week. MRA will be back in action next week on the road against South Jones on Tuesday and will host Warren Central next Thursday. 

Jackson Academy baseball is on an eight-game winning streak and holds a 9-2 record so far this year. The Raiders are also playing in Biloxi this week for spring break, beating Hatley 6-4 and Montgomery Bell Academy (TN) 3-1, and are scheduled to take on Northpoint Christian and Tishomingo County on Wednesday. Jackson Academy will host Copiah Academy on Tuesday and play at Manchester Academy next Friday. 

St. Joseph baseball has started the season with an 8-3 record and have won eight of their last nine games. The Bruins have picked up wins over Vicksburg and Sacred Heart over the last week, while also falling 3-1 to Tri-County Academy. St. Joseph will Loyd Star and St. Andrew’s next week on Monday and Tuesday. 

Tri-County Academy baseball has started the season with a 9-3 record. The Rebels picked up an 8-3 win over Parklane Academy and a 3-1 win over St. Joseph last week. Next up for Tri-County Academy will be two games on Friday against Purvis and Bogue Chitto.
