Aldermen on the ballot for June 3 municipal races
Five Republican candidates and one Democrat candidate will be competing for five alderman-at-large seats on Tuesday during the Lucky City’s first municipal general election.
Incumbents Jayce Powell and John Taylor are joined by Republicans Chip Williams, Jessie Campbell and Samuel Stonestreet. The lone Democrat in the race is incumbent Miya Warfield Bates.
The April primary elections resulted in dismal turnout, with approximately 200 residents participating in the city’s first primary election.
The five Republican candidates escaped from a field of six, with canidate Paul Harty eliminated with the least amount of votes.
The city’s aldermen seats are all at-large and voters are able to select five choices for the positions.
City Clerk Lindsey Kellum said during the primary they received ballots with fewer than five votes cast and encouraged voters to select five names in the general election.
Gluckstadt Mayor Walter Morrison is running unopposed for a second term.
The new city term will begin on July 1.
