Absentee voting available thru noon Saturday
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 7, and voters will head to the polls to decide a handful of local races as well as legislative and statewide contests.
Two incumbent Democrat supervisors have Republican opponents this year and the only other contested countywide race is Circuit Clerk.
The remaining countywide races were decided in the August Republican Primary.
Absentee voting is underway and will remain open until noon on Saturday, Nov. 4.
In addition to normal business hours, the Circuit Clerk’s Office will be open on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to noon, specifically for absentee voting.
Contested county races include:
• Incumbent Republican Anita E. Wray faces Democrat Fannie Hargon Sanders.
• Incumbent Democrat District 4 Supervisor Karl Banks faces former Republican District 4 Supervisor David Bishop.
• Incumbent Democrat District 5 Supervisor Paul E. Griffin faces Charles “Chip” Matthews.
• Incumbent Democrat District 2 Constable faces Republican TchiaKousky Williams.
• Republican Barbara Gross faces Independent Randall Bolden for District 2 Election Commissioner.
• Incumbent Republican District 4 Election Commissioner Dan Dickinson faces Democrat Anthony Denton.
Contested state legislative races include:
• Republican Clay Mansell faces Democrat Sharon Moman for District 56 House of Representatives.
• Incumbent Independent Shanda M. Yates faces Republican Amile Wilson for District 64 House of Representatives.
• Republican Celeste Hurst faces Independent Ryshonda Harper Beechem for District 75 House of Representatives.
• Incumbent Democrat Joseph C. Thomas Sr. faces Republican Chastity May Magyar for District 22 State Senate.
Contested statewide races include:
• Incumbent Republican Gov. Tate Reeves faces off against Democrat Brandon Presley and Independent Gwendolyn Gray.
• Incumbent Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann faces Democrat D. Ryan Grover.
• Incumbent Republican Michael Watson faces Democrat Ty Pinkins.
• Incumbent Republican Attorney General Lynn Fitch faces Democrat Greta Kemp Martin.
