6 plead guilty for role in drive-by murder

RIDGELAND — Six men were charged in connection with a June 2019 drive-by shooting at a basketball court here that claimed the life of a Madison man.

Kendrell Miller, 23, of Madison was fatally shot around 5:50 p.m. on June 18, 2019, while shooting basketball with friends at Midway Park off of Midway Avenue west of U.S. 51 which is now south of the new Lake Harbor extension.

Six men were charged and pleaded guilty on Tuesday. 

Two were charged with the murder:

• Christopher Devon Coleman, 22, of Ridgeland, plead guilty to second-degree murder and received 30 years to serve.

• Lenzarius Jayquan Roberts, 17, of Ridgeland pled guilty to second-degree murder and received 30 years to serve.

Three pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact and received a sentence of 15 years. They were:

• Darius Farmer, 23, of Madison.

• Christopher Tyler, 18, of Ridgeland.

• D’Antonio Guyton, 22, of Ridgeland.

Kaland McCollum, 28, of Ridgeland pleaded guilty to a drive-by shooting and was sentenced to serve 18 years.

Miller was identified as an innocent bystander at the time though it is now believed that he was the target and that the shooting was drug-related.
