Five local high-school graduates — Chandler Alexander, Hailey Dennis, Claire Price, Sarah Turnipseed and Sophia Wilbourn — were among eight students in Mississippi who received Entergy Community Power Scholarships. Each year, Entergy awards $5,000 scholarships to dependents of employees in recognition of their community service and academic success.

Alexander, son of Lee Alexander, power plant manager for Entergy Mississippi’s Baxter Wilson Plant in Vicksburg, graduated from Germantown High School and plans to attend Vanderbilt University. He was a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, World Culture Club, Mu Alpha Theta and Future Business Leaders of America, and was active in Marine Corps JROTC.

“Thanks to Entergy’s scholarship, I will be able to further my education with more financial stability and come one step closer to serving our great nation in a much larger capacity,” Alexander said.

Dennis, daughter of Bobby Dennis, dry fuel storage supervisor for Entergy Nuclear in Jackson, graduated from Germantown High School and plans to study nursing at Hinds Community College.

“I’m so grateful for this scholarship,” she said. “It means the world to me. Thank you, Entergy.”

Price is the daughter of Brian Price, an information security engineer for Entergy in Jackson. A graduate of Germantown High School, she plans to study pediatrics at Mississippi State University. Her community-service activities included mentoring third graders, coordinating dance camps for children and serving meals and distributing food at a homeless shelter.

“The scholarship is a big boost toward paying for my college education, and I appreciate the recognition for community service and academic achievement,” Price said.

Turnipseed, daughter of Lea Turnipseed, Entergy Mississippi’s vice president of customer service, graduated from Madison Ridgeland Academy and plans to study microbiology at Mississippi State University. She was active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life, and the Happening of Mississippi and supported several community events and fundraisers through her involvement in the National Honor Society, Mayors Youth Council, Crown Club and Broadmoor Baptist Church.

“Receiving this scholarship gives me motivation to continue working hard and reaching my collegiate and post-collegiate goals,” she said.

Wilbourn is the daughter of Victoria Wilbourn, lead financial analyst for Entergy Nuclear in Jackson. She graduated from Madison Central High School and plans to major in public policy and leadership at the University of Virginia. Her hobbies include painting, scuba diving, skiing and sailing, and through her interest in horseback riding, she was able to volunteer as a counselor at a riding camp.

“The Community Power Scholarship gives me the ability to further pursue my education” Wilbourn said. “It lifts the burden of financial stress on me just a little bit, allowing me to focus more on my studies and interests.”

“Entergy’s focus on improving educational opportunities for Mississippians is one of many ways we support our communities,” said Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO. “Through Entergy’s scholarship program, we’re not only recognizing students’ achievements but also helping them continue their educational journeys. As a community-minded company, we’re also inspired by the many ways these students have used their talents and skills to give back to their communities. We congratulate them for their success and appreciate this opportunity to invest in their futures.”

The scholarship program supports Entergy’s mission to create value for our owners, customers, employees and communities. It also aligns with Entergy’s workforce development initiative geared toward expanding economic development and meeting the future needs of customers.
