$44M classroom expansion unveiled
GLUCKSTADT — Madison County Schools unveiled a new wing of 24 new classrooms on Tuesday, part of a $44 million project to add 96,000 square feet of new space for students and faculty that includes the classrooms and a performing arts center.
Local dignitaries and officials from the community and school district gathered on Tuesday, July 30, at 2 p.m. to officially celebrate the completion of the new classroom wing right on time for the start of the 2024-2025 school year, Superintendant Ted Poore said.
“These 24 new classrooms will provide state-of-the-art learning environments for our students and faculty, as well as more space together under one roof. It is exciting to see portable classrooms being moved away as we prepare to start the school year with this added wing of classrooms,” Poore said.
Poore said Gluckstadt and the surrounding community has embraced the school and contributed to its growth.
“As the school’s founding principal, I could not have imagined when we opened Germantown High School how this entire zone would grow and develop,” Poore said. “Since day one we have been blessed with outstanding teachers, involved parents, bright students, and a supportive community here in Gluckstadt, all of which together have been a recipe for incredible success.”
JBHM Architecture created the project plans, and AnderCorp is the construction firm bringing that vision to life.
Poore said he was happy they could open the classrooms in time for this school year, which started today, Aug. 1, for grades one through twelve.
School official anticiapte the completion of the state-of-the-art, two-story, 1,200-seat performing arts center to be late 2024 or early 2025.
“Even as we gather to open this new wing of classrooms, construction continues on our amazing new performing arts center at Germantown High School slated to open later this school year,“ Poore said.
“Together, these two projects represent a 44-million-dollar investment in the Germantown Zone, all made without raising taxes or requiring a bond issue.”
Germantown High School is home to 1,400 students in grades nine through twelve in the Germantown Zone of Madison County Schools. The A-rated school excels in academics, athletics, and the arts, and the growing campus facilities will enhance student opportunities for future success.
“This past school year, every campus in the Germantown Zone earned an A rating on state accountability. We know that expanding and improving campus facilities will enhance opportunities for continued excellence,” Poore said.
