42nd Annual Pepsi Pops set for Friday postponed

RIDGELAND — The 42nd Annual Pepsi Pops concert by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra at Old Trace Park has been postponed

The twinkling waters of the Reservoir offer a perfect picnic setting for families, young couples, children, and the others to soak up the beloved pops standards that make the concert a popular event annually.

Pepsi Pops originated in 1981 when the Brown Bottling Group partnered with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. The concert featured not only members of the orchestra, but people from Jackson schools at the time who were studying string instruments with symphony members.

EVENT POSTPONED

The concert this year is set for Friday, May 12. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and pre-concert entertainment by the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra followed by David Keary and Friends starts at 6 p.m. The main show begins at 7:30 p.m., directed and conducted by Crafton Beck.

This year’s concert will include recognizable tunes with selections from stage and screen, such as music from the James Bond Films, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harry Potter, Spider-Man, Evita, and Lord of the Rings, as well as chart-toppers such as “Moon River” and “Killing Me Softly with His Song.”

A variety of food truck vendors will be on site, and Brown Bottling will have ice-cold Pepsi products for sale. Parking in the lot to the west of the park is free, and parking passes can be purchased at the VIP Entry Gate off Post Road on the day of the concert.

Advance tickets for the concert are $15, and $20 at the gate. For tickets, visit www.msorchestra.com/event/pepsi-pops, or call (601) 856-6574. Old Trace Park is located at 422 Post Road in Ridgeland.
