Canton police have reported three fatal shootings in a roughly four-day period, with the first being reported on Christmas Day and the latest on Tuesday.

Brandon Isaiah Moore, 17, of Canton, was arrested and charged with manslaughter-culpable negligence and discharging a firearm by Canton police on Dec. 25, Police Chief Otha Brown said of the call that came in around 12:10 a.m.

It was determined that Moore accidentally shot 18-year-old Naya Jackson in an apartment at The Links off of Highway 51.

Jackson was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Brown said the incident has currently been ruled an accident, but Moore’s charges are subject to be upgraded following further review by the District Attorney’s office.

Brown said two shootings were reported on Tuesday, Dec 28.

Brown said a shooting was reported around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, in the Kingston Place subdivision on Harrington Drive. Brown noted that Jamal Porter, 22, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

Brown said police are still seeking suspects in that fatal shooting. Brown said a blue Trailblazer was spotted leaving the scene at a high rate of speed. The Trailblazer has since been located, he said.

Brown said that later Tuesday, Dec. 28, around 10:30 p.m., Canton police received a report of another shooting in the vicinity of Holmes Avenue and Mace Street. Upon arrival, officers found Shaumar Body, 17, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Body was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Brown said Body’s shooting brings the number of fatal shootings in Canton for 2021 to 10, the same number as last year, which was the most recorded in recent memory.
