FLORA — A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting in Kearney Park earlier this month, the authorities said.

The man, Jakeviyon Demarquise Hunter, 21, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, murder and shooting into a vehicle.

Hunter was booked into the Madison County Detention Center on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

The investigation is ongoing though no further details were made available at this time said Madison County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Heath Hall.

“We are not able to give out any additional details on an active murder investigation,” Hall said.

Hunter was charged in connection with the fatal shooting in Kearney Park that claimed the life of 21-year-old Jaquarius Ross.

Sheriffs deputies received a call on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 4:38 p.m. regarding a male victim found shot in a vehicle at a residence on St. Charles Street in Kearney Park, Hall said.

“Once deputies arrived they secured the scene and investigators started gathering information,’ Hall said. “The shooting is under investigation.”

Hall said investigators do not believe Ross lived at the residence he was found in front of.

Madison County Coroner Alex Breeland identified the victim and said he was shot multiple times.
