Madison resident Jay McCarthy has been hired by the Mississippi Development Authority as the agency's new chief financial officer. McCarthy starts August 1 and brings to MDA nearly 30 years of experience in finance, banking and economic development.

Madison's own Karen Robison was recognized this month in Money Magazine's "50 States, 50 Heroes" series for her efforts to fight poverty in the Madison County community through financial education. Robison has served as the executive director of MadCAAP, a non-profit organization located in Canton, for nearly a decade.

Madison County Teachers report Monday, Aug. 4 at 8 a.m. for Convocation at Madison Central High School and will have professional development in their schools on Aug. 5-6. Students 1st-12th grade report on Thursday Aug. 7. Kindergarten students are afforded a soft start-students with last names A-L will report Thursday, Aug. 7 and students with last names M-Z will report Friday, Aug. 8. All students will report Monday, Aug. 11, 2014.
