The Mavericks bounced back after their season opening loss to Northwest Rankin with a dominant performance over Yazoo County.

Germantown did most of their damage with a versatile ground attack that racked up 312 yards. Sophomore Nick Barnes led the Mavericks with 161 yards on 11 carries for an average of 14.6 yards a carry. He also score two touchdowns. Freshman Branson Robinson score two touchdowns as well and ran for 87 yards on eight carries. The Mavericks rushing attack slashed the Yazoo County defense with an average of 9.8 yards a carry. Germantown did not do much through the air only completing two of 10 passed for 25 yards and one touchdown. While not forcing a shutout, the Maverick defense blocked a field goal, caused two fumbles, got three sacks and an interception.

Germantown will make the long journey up I-55 next week and take on Southaven.

St. Andrews- 41


After a close game last week the Saints dominated the Bulldogs on their way to a 2-0 start.

Led by the passing of senior quarterback Holland Townes, the Saints got everything they wanted from the Bulldogs defense. Townes went 19-33 for 273 yards and two touchdowns. The Saints got a boost from their return game as junior Aaron Cooper returned a kick and a punt for touchdowns and also put up 238 all-purpose yards with 103 receiving yards, 80 kick return yards and 55 punt return yards.  

St. Andrews will travel to Sandhill and take on Pisgah tomorrow.

St. Joseph-28 Tri-County Academy-7

The John Bond era of St. Joseph football is off to a 2-0 start after dominating Tri-County 28-7.

Balance was the name of the game for the Bruin offense as they threw for 224 yards on 20 passes and ran for 114 yards for 32 rushes. Senior Daniel Clarke completed eight of his 13 pass attempts for 165 yards and two touchdowns. The ground game was a team effort as four Bruins ran for more than 25 yards with senior running back Chandler Thornhill leading the way with 51 yards.

The Rebels were led by Cade Shepard’s one-yard touchdown run on offense. Greyson Smith had 15 tackles and JoJo Jones had 2 interceptions for the TCA defense.

The Bruins will travel to The Brickyard to take on Jackson Academy this week and Tri-County will host Benton Academy.


Northwest Rankin-56

After a solid week one win, the Titans fell to Northwest Rankin thanks to a rough second half.

A relatively close game going into halftime as Northwest Rankin led 28-16, things got away from the Titans as they gave up 28 unanswered in the second half. Stats were unavailable for the game.

Ridgeland will return home and host Koscuisko this Friday.


Velma Jackson-50

The Tigers and Falcons faced off in another rivalry matchup with Velma Jackson’s rushing attack overwhelming Canton.

Senior quarterback Antavious Willis played like the leader his coach said he expected him to be going into this season. Willis threw the ball 10 times, completing five of those passes, for 105 yards. But it was his legs that stole the show. He ran the ball 19 times for 315 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. Canton lacked an answer for the quarterback that led Velma Jackson to a much needed win after a loss to Ridgeland to open the season.

Velma Jackson will take a short trip down I-55 into Jackson for a matchup with Provine this Friday. Canton. Canton also will be traveling into Jackson as play Jim Hill high school.

Hartfield Academy-14

After a season opening shutout win, Canton Academy fell to Hartfield Academy to fall to a 1-1 record on the season.

Canton will travel to Greenville this Friday to take on St. Joseph.

Jackson Prep continues their streak of dominance by crushing Washington in their week two matchup.
