TUPELO — The Madison Central High School Jaguars ended Tupelo High’s perfect season last Friday in a 38-17 thumping to advance to the 6A state championship semifinals this week.

Madison Central (10-3-1) will take on Clinton (12-1) this Friday in Clinton. Earlier this year in week six the Arrows beat the Jags 30-21.

The Jags’ defense was key this past week against the Golden Wave, forcing five turnovers, including a Braden Boykin pick-six in the fourth quarter.

Madison Central drew first blood following a Tupelo fumble when QB Jack Walker found Jarrion Roberts for a 42-yard touchdown.

In the second quarter Tupelo narrowed the gap with a field goal, which was matched by the Jags to end the half 10-3.

In the third quarter Madison Central found the end zone with nine minutes to go to lead 17-3 before adding another with four minutes to go.

The Jags continued to pile on the points and Tupelo finally found the end zone in the fourth quarter but it was too little, too late.

Walker finished the game with a strong ground game in addition to his aerial assault, racking up over 100 rushing yards for two touchdowns.

Boykin finished the game with two interceptions and Walton Poer had two fumble recoveries.

Clinton is coming off of a 27-21 victory over Warren Central in the second round of playoffs. The winner of this match will go on to play the winner of the Pearl-Petal contest on Friday. Pearl beat Meridian 44-6 to advance to the semis and Petal beat Brandon 14-10.
