MADISON - With the departure of basketball coach Rahim Lockhart, Madison Central Athletic Director Bobby Hall has some big shoes to fill.
Madison Central coach Rahim Lockhart took the head coaching position at Jones County Junior College this week.
Lockhart took over a Madison Central program that was reeling, coming off of a 8-16 season in 2011-2012. Lockhart led the Jags to a 16-14 record in his first season, a 25-9 record and a semifinal appearance in his second and a 28-4 and another semifinal appearance this season.
Madison Central fell 55-48 to Grenada in his final game thanks, in part, to poor free throw shooting in the second half.
Still, the former Ole Miss Rebel left the program in much better condition than he found it.
"I've lost a great coach," Hall said Tuesday. "But I'm going to go get another great coach -a championship-caliber coach.
Hall added that his decision could come as early has Saturday.
As for Lockhart, he takes over a Jones County Junior College program coming off a national championship.
"It's a great move for me, both professionally and personally, and I am so excited about going to Jones," Lockhart said in a JCJC release announcing the hire. "Jones is no secret - it's the best junior college in the state."
Lockhart, who was officially announced at a Monday press conference in Ellisville, takes over for Jay Ladner, who left JCJC for Southeastern Louisiana.
