Lorean Ellis Allen, 82, of Ridgeland, died Sunday, May 25, 2014.

Graveside services were held May 29, 2014, at Wright Ferguson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Allen was a descendant of the earliest settlers in Lowndes County. She was born Nov. 21,1931, to the late William Litle and Marie Ellis. At age 13, Mrs. Allen entered a local talent show, with first prize being an appearance on the Phil Gulley Show on WCBI Radio in Columbus.

This led to a twice-weekly radio program, "Lorean Ellis Sings." Later, as a student at Mississippi State College for Women, she was vocalist with the Blue Serenaders Orchestra.

Mrs. Allen was former member of Pushmataha Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution; former National Corresponding Secretary National Association of Junior Auxiliaries; former member of One O'clock, El Virnes and LaFinesse Luncheon Bridge Clubs; Holiday Dance Club; and member of Jackson Bridge Club where she was a Silver Life Master.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years Kenneth Percy Allen, Jr., a daughter Lynne Allen Majek (Randy) of San Antonio, Texas and a son, Ken Allen, III of Jackson; and three grandchildren.

She is also survived by brother, Selwyn Hale (Donna) Ellis of Andulasia, Ala., a sister, Willodeen Ellis Hollingsworth and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Slaughter Ellis, of Columbus, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Allen is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William Litle Ellis, Jr, her sisters-in-law Cora Ellis and Joy Allen Wyckoff, and her brother-in-law Woodrow Hollingsworth.
