Dorothy "Dot" Murray Terry, of Madison died April 28, 2014.

Funeral services were held May 1 in the Broadmoor Baptist Church Chapel. Interment followed at Canton Cemetery. Breeland Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Mrs. Terry was born May 7, 1933, in Brandon. She graduated from Brandon High School as valedictorian and attended Mississippi State College for Women.

She later transferred to Millsaps College and was awarded her B.S. with a major in Bacteriology and minor in Chemistry. After moving to Canton, she joined First Baptist Church of Canton and served as church organist for 30 years.

Mrs. Terry was a volunteer for Mississippi Baptist Health Systems for 25 years and served as Auxiliary Board President. She was honored as Volunteer of the Year having served a total of 8,479 hours. She was also an active member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and its choir.

She is preceded in death by her parents Bessie Ruth Lindsey Murray and John Clanton Murray of Brandon, her brother, John Clanton Murray, Jr., and her sister Ruth Murray Harvey, both of Brandon. She is survived by her son Joe Walter Terry III, MD (Linda) of Canton, daughters Shannon Conner (Ben) of Canton, Melinda Brown (Jim) of Olive Branch, and Ruth Anna McDaniel (Mickey) of Tylertown. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to The Baptist Foundation, Jackson, Mississippi or Broadmoor Baptist Church, Madison.
