A runner died while competing in the Mississippi Blues Marathon in Jackson Saturday.

Chris Brown, 40, of Ridgeland collapsed on the course while running as part of a relay team that split the 26.2-mile race into five sections.

Officials say Brown died of natural causes and did not appear to be weather related despite temperatures during the race in the teens with the wind chill hitting single digits.

This was the third year for the event and around 1,300 people competed.
