Law enforcement officers with the Ridgeland, Madison, Canton and Madison County Sheriff’s Department participated in an early Wednesday morning “Amber Alert” before Jackson police found an 11-year-old girl just hours after being abducted from her south Jackson home.

The child, Danasha Scott, had been shot and kidnapped by two men wearing dark clothing and masks who broke into her home around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday demanding money.

She was discovered in a car about two blocks from her home just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

Authorities said Danasha escaped her kidnappers at some point during the night, ran to a nearby house and knocked on the door. After no one answered, she crawled into an unlocked car in the driveway for shelter.

At dawn, she knocked on the door again. Homeowners immediately called 911 and Jackson police responded.

She was being treated for her gunshot wound early Wednesday at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Police, including Madison County officials, are searching for the kidnappers.
