RIDGELAND — Take Pride in America and Take Pride in Mississippi announced Tuesday that the city of Ridgeland has joined the national partnership that recruits, supports and recognizes volunteers who work to improve public parks, forests, grasslands, reservoirs, wildlife refuges, cultural and historic sites, local playgrounds, and other recreation areas..

As a Take Pride in America participant, the city of Ridgeland has agreed to sponsor two volunteer events per year, encourage the expansion of volunteer opportunities, and nominate exemplary volunteers and volunteer projects for awards.

“We are delighted to continue adding new members to the Take Pride in America City program,” said Marti Allbright, executive director.

“With each city that earns the Take Pride designation, more and more American citizens become aware that we – the public – own our local, state and federal parks, forests, beaches, recreation areas and other public lands. But with that ownership comes responsibility, and each one of us can find a way to lend a hand in caring for our public lands.

“Public lands begin in our hometowns, so we are eager to have local participation and support. We welcome Ridgeland to our growing list of Take Pride cities in Mississippi.”

“Ridgeland is proud to become a Take Pride in America City. Ridgeland has an unsurpassed quality of life that nurtures families and supports economic growth. While the city is growing, we continue to expand our park and trail system to accommodate those families that enjoy calling Ridgeland home,” said Mayor Gene McGee.

“The City’s Beautification Committee encourages attractive residential and commercial property through recognition. Ridgeland has an abundance of active volunteer groups that take pride in their city including neighborhood associations, school and church volunteers and a newly formed Ridgeland Garden Club.”

McGee said that as a Take Pride in America City, “we will encourage and recognize these volunteers while increasing awareness of citizen stewardship of our public land
