The Madison Central Speech and Debate Team competed at the University of Denver in the Mile High Invitational over the weekend. The tournament consisted of 37 schools from seven states and attracted intense competition from across the country. Madison Central was one of two Mississippi teams present at the tournament, and both teams produced finalists at the tournament.

MC Speech and Debate's Team Manager Jessica Styres was named Informative Speaking Champion at the tournament, an event she has been undefeated in so far this year. Informative Speaking is an event where students write a ten-minute informative speech while using visual aids to enhance the performance. Styres is speaking on the amazing uses of the wood frog and it's role in the fight to cure diabetes and finding ways to make organ transplants more accessible. Styres also made semifinals in Original Oratory at the tournament. The team also excelled in Extemporaneous Speaking at the Denver tournament with Jackson Day and John Bethea both making quarterfinals in the event.

The team also won the Denver University photo contest for the Mile High Invitational with the team spoofing the popular 90's show "Friends."

The team now prepares to compete at Pascagoula's Singing River Classic in January and to begin their qualifying season in the spring.

Madison Central Speech and Debate is under the direction of Ms. Rachel Clapper.
