Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Capital Area (HFHMCA) is offering a unique way to honor friends, family and loved ones this holiday season – alternative gift cards that build houses and hope.
“We offer a great gift solution for that hard-to-buy-for-friend or family member, or for that special someone you just want to honor in a unique way,” said Merrill McKewen, executive director of HFHMCA. “Our alternative gifts in the form of a specialty gift card also provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season while you help someone else."

Recipients of HFHMCA’s alternative gifts will receive a holiday card notifying them that a donation has been made in their honor. “We are grateful to local artist Pryor Buford Lampton for sharing her time and talents. She captured the spirit of the holiday season with her gift of art for our unique holiday card,” McKewen said.

A Mississippi native, Lampton has paintings in private collections from Mississippi to Montana. Her use of color creates joyful images of trees, skies and as seen in the Habitat Christmas card, angels. “This year’s Christmas card design represents Habitat’s Angels standing in the gap for families in need of a decent, affordable home,” McKewen said.

Every tax-deductible donation to Habitat for an alternative gift will help families who simply need a hand up not a hand out.  Donations help them build strength and stability in homeowners’ lives. “A chance to own a home through a zero interest mortgage is priceless to Habitat homeowners and will continue to have a positive impact on their lives for years to come,” McKewen said.

HFHMCA holiday cards can be sent with a special message for $25 each or 100 cards for $1,000.

The last day for ordering cards is Dec. 18 to ensure delivery by Christmas.
