MADISON – Christmas music and the holiday spirit will take center stage when St. Joseph Catholic School and the Fine Arts Department presents its most popular annual concert: “Gifts of the Season.”

The concert will feature classic and contemporary seasonal music while showcasing the talents of the school’s instrumental music, visual arts and choral students. Curtain is 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16. Admission is $10 each.

“Every year, ‘Gifts of the Season’ is a popular event on our campus,” said Ronnie Russell, the St. Joseph band director and chairman of the Fine Arts Department. “This is an event that celebrates Christmas and the talented students who attend our school.

“‘Gifts of the Season’ attracts people from all over the Jackson area. Current students, parents, alumni and people just interested in celebrating the Christmas season always attend. If this event doesn’t boost your Christmas spirit, nothing will.”

“Gifts of the Season” will feature student musicians performing traditional Christmas favorites. Choral students under the direction of Mr. Michael Hrivnak will perform. And visual art students will sell hand-crafted Christmas ornaments created under the guidance of teacher Mrs. Lou Ann Turner.

The Christmas concert is just one of several high-profile events the Fine Arts Department will produce this school year.

Last month, students staged the fall play “The Curious Savage”; next spring they will stage the classic musical “The Wizard of Oz.” Both will be overseen by Ms. Mary Hannah Skelton, the theater teacher and director of theatrical productions.

“Our students constantly amaze me,” Principal Dena Kinsey said. “This is a ‘can’t-miss’ event: You can’t afford to pass it up because it is that good.

“‘Gifts of the Season’ is one of several productions and projects in which our students shine as a group and as individuals. I am so proud of the work they put into this concert, including the time and energy they spent rehearsing and preparing since early this fall.”
