MADISON — A traffic signal being built in front of WalMart on Grandview Boulevard here should be complete by the end of May, city officials said Wednesday.

Public Works Director Chad Wages said the installation of the signal doesn’t take as long as getting the equipment in.

Wages said the city awarded the bid last fall and had issues finalizing an easement with WalMart due to a change in personnel there. He said now everything is ready and there should be no more delays.

“The pole installation should be starting sometime at the end of the first week of May,” he said. “By the end of May we should be looking at an operational signal.”

In September 2015, the city conducted a traffic analysis of the road and traffic counters witnessed three accidents in a 12-hour span.

Over the past four years there were over 200 traffic accidents there.
