The Junior League of Jackson prepares for annual Jumble fundraiser starting Thursday
Wednesday, January 30, 2019 12:00 PM
The Junior League of Jackson's fifth annual Junior League Jumble kicks off today at the Downtown YMCA on East River Place in Jackson. The event will also take place on Saturday at the YMCA.
Considered the ultimate rummage sale, Jumble is an opportunity for shoppers to get a steal of a deal on great furniture, home décor, clothing, books, and other household items.
"Everyone loves a bargain, and Junior League Jumble is the ultimate bargain!” 2019 Jumble Chair Ellie Word said. “The League started Jumble five years ago following the closure of Bargain Boutique. We wanted to continue the idea of offering quality, low-cost items to the community, while using the funds to support our greater mission of empowering women, promoting voluntarism, and serving our shared community. Jumble gets bigger and better each year, and we have been able to increase our impact by connecting with specific community partner needs."
Jumble is unique in that it is both a community project and a fund development business of the Junior League of Jackson. Jumble enhances the community by offering a wide variety of high quality goods at affordable prices. Additionally, all unsold merchandise is donated to the League’s community partners. In addition to providing the community with new, like-new, and gently used items at a bargain, Jumble generates funds that directly support the mission of the Junior League of Jackson.
"The League's theme for this year is Creating Connections,” JLJ President Meredith Aldridge said, “and I can think of few other projects that show such a clear connection between our mission and outcomes. At Jumble, we are able to provide quality donated items at deeply-discounted prices to our community, and then use the funds raised in those sales to support our more than 30 separate community initiatives targeting early literacy, children's health, and the social development of children and youth."
Jumble is a massive undertaking for the Junior League of Jackson. Throughout the year, League members donate, collect, sort, inventory, price, and tag hundreds of quality items. Junior League Jumble is successful because of thousands of hours of work put in by hundreds of League volunteers. Jumble is organized by a 14-person steering committee (plus 6 co-chairs), who have been working to plan this year’s event for over 12 months.
