MADISON — Three juveniles were arrested last Thursday after police say they stole a package from the front porch of a residence while walking neighborhoods soliciting money.

Police say they received a call about two young males going door-to-door asking for money for the “Mississippi Lakers” annual fundraiser.

According to MPD, officers were dispatched and observed one of the suspects who was identified getting into a car with two other occupants.

“These subjects were identified as the people going door-to-door,” a release from MPD stated. “Upon further investigation, an opened postal package was observed in the back seat of the car. The shipping label on the package was addressed to a nearby residence and officers made contact with that resident who confirmed that it was their package and they did not know the three males.”

Police then detained the individuals on charges of receiving stolen property and the case was referred to Madison County Youth Court. Because the individuals were minors, their names will not be released. They were transported to the Yazoo County Juvenile Detention Center.
