Madison and Ridgeland are getting into the Christmas spirit this week with a number of events ranging from parades to an annual city celebration.

MADISON

The Madison the City Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Madison’s Night Out on Friday at the Madison Square Center for the Arts. The event will be from 6-9 p.m.

“We have food that will be provided by many local restaurants,” Chamber Executive Director Elizabeth Fulcher said. “We have a great silent auction that has got a lot of great items from our local businesses.”

The Patrick Harkins Band will perform. Tickets are $40. Food and drinks will be provided by Bonefish, Campbell’s Bakery, Corner Bakery, Dickey’s, Georgia Blue, Madison Cellars, Pizza Shack and Strawberry Cafe.

On Saturday, the annual Madison Christmas Parade will be held at 9 a.m. With the theme, A Storybook Christmas, the parade features singer/songwriter Erin Ashley O'Keefe, a Madison native and now Nashville resident, as the grand marshal.

The parade will travel up Old Canton Road from Ridgecrest Baptist Church, turn onto Main Street and end at the Red Caboose for the awards ceremony. There will be hot chocolate and cookies plus entertainment by the Madison Avenue Upper Elementary choir on the grounds.

RIDGELAND

The City of Ridgeland will have its first-ever Christmas tree lighting today (Thursday, Nov. 29) at 6 p.m. on the Railroad plaza at the corner of Jackson Street and Northeast Madison Drive.

“We will have musical groups from Ridgeland High School, First Ridgeland, First United Methodist and Simon Hill Church,” Kristen Beal, community relations specialist with the City of Ridgeland, said. “There will be crafts for children and food vendors. Santa will also make an appearance.”

During the event, several Jackson Street businesses will stay open late and offer Christmas specials.

Northeast Madison Drive to Porter Street will close at 4 p.m. in preparation for the event.

On Saturday, a Star-Spangled Christmas-themed parade will be in Ridgeland at 2 p.m. The parade will go through Olde Towne Station, Jackson Street, Sunnybrook Road and Ridgeland Avenue.
