RIDGELAND — An assisted living facility located here received approval Tuesday night from the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to expand.

Aldermen unanimously approved a petition and application for conditional use and dimensional variance for CBC Jackson, LLC’s The Orchard retirement facility at South Pear Orchard Road and Towne Center Boulevard.

James Peden, attorney for the petitioner, said that they were not sure they would need the variance but were going ahead and asking for it if dimensions for their upcoming add-on violated current dimension restrictions for the parking lot. The variance reduces the required 50 foot landscape open area requirement to 40 feet to allow for the parking lot of the project.

“It is not clear this early on if we will need it or not, but after discussions with (city officials) we decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and be prepared,” Peden said.

The Orchard expansion will specifically address the relocation and expansion of existing assisted living units and memory care units at the facility.

Ward 4 Alderman Brian Ramsey said that he had heard positive feedback about the facility from a local home owners association.

“I talked to one of the HOA leaders over there the other day and they said y’all are doing a great job and are excited to hear that the Orchard is expanding,” Ramsey said.
