Madison is rounding up retirees hankering for a spring social.

Sponsored by Madison the City Chamber of Commerce’s Retirement Program, the Western Round Up is set for March 23 at Madison Square Center for the Arts. Down-home food from Mama Hamil’s and line dancing will fill the 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. social open to retirees for the cost of a $5 ticket.

“Since Madison is a certified retirement community, we love to provide opportunities for our seniors. We are always on the lookout for something different that will be a lot of fun,” said Elizabeth Fulcher, director of the chamber. “We are super excited about providing this luncheon for our retirees.”

Mike and Lisa of Dance Connection in Pearl will teach line dancing for those who want to tap their toes and move their feet.

“Come and enjoy the music, learn to line dance and eat a delicious lunch,” retirement director  Tona Becker said.

There will be a contest for the best dressed man and woman in Western wear. Becker said folks are invited to don their cowboy hats and boots to join in the spirit of the day. Those gussied up in their best cowboy gear win a prize.

For vittles, Mama Hamil’s is providing meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw and banana pudding.

There will also be door prizes awarded during the Round Up, provided by Madison Ace Hardware and Citizens National Bank.

Retirees can buy $5 tickets at either the Chamber office, 2023 Main Street, or the Community Center, 7454 Old Canton Road. Tickets will not be sold at the door so anyone who wants to attend must buy their tickets before March 23. For more information, call the chamber at 601-856-7060.

Becker said the Western Round Up wouldn’t be possible without sponsors, Sunnybrook Estates, Beau Ridge, Amada Senior Care, Community Bank, Merit Health, BankFirst Financial Services, Compassus Hospice, Assisting Angels, Kindred Hospice and Kindred at Home.
