Divers recovered the bodies of three individuals who drowned Sunday near a landfill west of Ridgeland.

Ridgeland Police Department Lt. Brian Myers said that Ridgeland Fire Department divers were among those called to the scene.

They were joined by the Hinds County Dive Team and other local agencies. Myers said the Madison County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation.

“The Dive Team with the Ridgeland Fire Department made the recovery,” Myers said. “That was a Madison County operation; the location is west of Ridgeland out near the landfill.”

Madison County Coroner Alex Breeland has identified the three  as Jaquarius Polk, 16, and Bobby Ray Gooden, 38, and Maurio Terrell, whose age is unknown as of press time.

Berlin said that the cause of death was determined to be drowning.

Details remain sparse, though the incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.
