JACKSON — More than 5,500 county and municipal documents filed with the Secretary of State’s Office are now available for search and review online.

Among other responsibilities, the Secretary of State’s Office is a repository for many state and local documents. Counties and municipalities are required to file charters of incorporation, interlocal agreements, and other similar documents with the Secretary of State.

The new online database contains recently executed and historical documents received from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, some dating back to the 1800s.  Historical papers will continue to be scanned and added to the database as they are received.

Municipalities and county governments in possession of documents not in the database are encouraged to contact the Business Services Division at (601) 359-1633.

“This is another step in our journey toward becoming a paperless operation, which saves taxpayer dollars and makes public information more immediately accessible to anyone wishing to view it,” Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said.
