Alayna Crane looks forward to this year’s Discovery Night: Around the Campfire event at the Mississippi Children’s Museum
Discovery Night: Around the Campfire is the Mississippi Children’s Museum’s (MCM) signature family fundraising event. This year, the event is held to coincide with the Mississippi Science Fest (September 21-22). This special evening celebrates children’s literature and delves into the fascinating world of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM).

"The Mississippi Children's Museum is such a valuable and treasured place for the families of Mississippi,” MCM Discovery Night co-chair Jeannie Hood said. “We want to do all we can to ensure it receives the resources it needs to continue to operate and thrive. As a parent with three young children, we cannot love the museum more."

Discovery Night is in its eighth year. The event is hosted annually by MCM Partners, a group of volunteers and donors committed to supporting and raising money for MCM. This year’s theme, Around the Campfire was selected to encourage children to expand their horizons through being active and exploring the outdoors. There will be camping themed activities such as storytelling around a campfire, exploring science through nature and nature themed crafts.

This year’s event will feature fantastic food and drinks, along with live musical entertainment by the band “Bill, Temperance & Jeff,” a bounce house, an obstacle course, special STEAM activities and a raffle.

"The Mississippi Children's Museum provides a safe and fun environment for our children, and also fosters their education by providing so many exhibits and tools to aid their learning.  This event and the others like it throughout the year provide the funding the museum needs to keep going--and it's an honor to help spearhead that by chairing this event," Co-Chair Elizabeth Meadows said.

Proceeds from this event help support MCM’s Literacy and STEAM Initiatives as well as provide critical operating revenue, enabling the museum to remain accessible to all children.

Children and their families are encouraged to dress in their favorite camping gear! Tickets are available at the Mississippi Children’s Museum website for $10 for children and $25 for adults.
