Two local pageant title holders will work doggedly April 16 to help raise funds and fun for Webster Animal Shelter in Madison during their "Crowns and Hounds" event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shelter is located at 525 Post Oak Road in Madison.

Miss Madison the City Tiffany Strain and Miss Rolling Hills Anna Katherine Hoops, both of Madison, will be on hand (or, paw) to sign autographs and collect donations of food, supplies or money to benefit the shelter.

Attendees, who are encouraged to bring their pets and pause, paws or pose for photos with the crown holders, will enjoy live music by The Swingin' Cats. Those who bring donations will have their names placed in drawings for 12 pet prizes. Snacks and drinks will also be available "under the tent" for pet parents and their families.

Suggested donations the shelter needs at this time are cat toys, chewable dog toys, dog food, all sizes of dog beds, old towels, old sheets and newspapers with slick advertising removed. Ongoing needs include Purina Dry Kitten Chow, Purina Adult Dry Cat Chow, clay cat litter, Pedigree canned puppy and dog food, Clorox wipes, and money for heartworm treatments.

Sponsors for the event include Madison businesses Corner Bakery and PetCo.

Strain will compete in the statewide Miss Magnolia Mississippi Pageant in November; and Hoops will compete in the Miss Mississippi Pageant in June, with an official platform of animal advocacy.
