Over 500 runners and walkers participated in the race according to Ronnie Tubertini of SouthGroup in Ridgeland. "It was a bit chilly that day but a great day for the children's hospital", Tubertini said. "Over 100 SouthGroup employees and family members from across the state, including Ridgeland, worked as volunteers in registration, course marshals, children's activities, race assistants, aid stations, traffic control and refreshment services", Tubertini added.
Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children treats over 150,000 children from every county in Mississippi each year for health issues from cystic fibrosis and diabetes to neurological and heart disorders and other childhood illnesses. "Those of us with healthy children are blessed and this is one way we are able to make sure children in our state with health issues receive world-class medical treatment", Tubertini said.
The event also included one-mile fun run as well as activities for children. "Next year we are looking for even more participants from all over the state and hope to raise even more money for the treatment of our children," Tubertini added.
