MADISON - The search for a bank robber was continuing in Madison County this afternoon after a man entered the Bankcorp South branch on Main Street this mornining armed and demanding money.

The Madison Police Department received an alarm from the Bankcorp South branch at 2174 Main Street in Madison at 9:08 a.m.

Police said that a white male in his late 20s to early 30s had robbed two teller stations inside the bank at gunpoint.

The male subject, who was wearing eye glasses, a dark colored jogging type suit, with a white stripe on the legs and white tennis shoes, was last seen leaving the bank on foot into a nearby wooded area.

There was no vehicle description received. The subject displayed what appeared to be a silver colored semi-automatic handgun during the robbery.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Residents were reporting a large number of law enforcment authorities including a helecopter over the city.

An undetermined amount of money was taken.

The investigation continues in conjunction with federal, local and county law enforcement agencies. Bank surveillance photographs of the suspect are attached.
