MADISON - Authorities searched for nearly eight hours before recovering a body out of Lake Caroline early afternoon on Wednesday.

The body was identified by police as Michael Tait Hendrix, 27, a resident of Lake Caroline.

Madison County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jeremy Williams said they received a call at 4:22 a.m. about a motorcycle wreck but when deputies arrived they could not find a victim.

"Evidence led [deputies] to believe the victim had been ejected from the bike into the lake," he said. "We called the dive teams out here."

The motorcycle hit a guard rail near the boat ramp and the Mermaid Cafe.

Crews from the Madison Fire Department, Ridgeland Fire Department, Madison County EOC and sheriff's department searched the murky waters for hours.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks came in with sonar that proved to be helpful in locating the body.

"They all did a fantastic job," Williams said.

The chief deputy added that it's too early to know exactly what happened and they are continuing the investigation.
