Auditions for Mississippi Boychoir are currently being held for boys ages six through 18.
The only arts-based youth development organization of its kind in the state, Mississippi Boychoir is celebrating twenty years of helping develop voices of boys who have vocal talent and love to sing.
To schedule an audition, contact Mississippi Boychoir at 601 665-7374, firstname.lastname@example.org, www.mississippiboychoir.org or facebook.com/msboychoir.
The choir is composed of boys from counties in mid-Mississippi. Weekly rehearsals are held in Jackson. Mississippi Boychoir has sung at Carnegie Hall and for festivals in Baltimore, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Cincinatti, Tuscon, New Orleans and at Disney World and Atlanta Braves games.
Internationally, members have participated in festivals in China, British Columbia, London and the Czech Republic.
According to the choir's Artistic Director Lelon Thompson, Mississippi Boychoir can be an important program to help keep boys in school.
Thompson also says, "research has proven programs such as Mississippi Boychoir help students in achieving academic skills, music scholarships and, in the case of two alums, win leading roles in Broadway musicals."
Mississippi Boychoir is a non-profit organization partially funded by Mississippi Arts Commission and the National Endowments for the Arts. Other funding comes from foundations, corporations, and individual donations.
