Madison's month-long musical picnic that welcomes summer kicks off Thursday.
Swing into Summer will offer music and children's activities 6-8 p.m. on each of the first four Thursdays in May on the grounds by Madison's historic Red Caboose.
"Join us for a month-long picnic and music fest," said Jo Luby, the city's special events coordinator.
A variety of activities for children will be featured each week. Some of the activities include furry friends from the city's Webster Animal Shelter, a rock wall, sand art, build your own sand castle, snow cones, bubbles, frozen yogurt and ice cream, trackless train and more.
"Families are encouraged to bring a picnic, a blanket or chairs to join your neighbors for this annual Madison tradition," Luby said.
This will be the 15th year for the event that entertains families with a different band each week.
Opening Swing into Summer will be Dirt Road Cadillac, which promises "a fantastic show" on its Facebook page. The Chicago tribute band Dialogue takes the stage May 8. Rhythm Masters get the crowd rocking on May 15 while Easy Eddie & the Party Rockers energize the crowd with their sound that includes rhythm and blues, rock and country favorites.
Renasant Bank sponsors the event with other sponsorships from A Focused Brain LLC, First Baptist Church, Madison Fire Department, Madison Garden Center, Madison Library, McAlister's Deli, Orlange Leaf and Smoothie King.
