Jackson Rhythm & Blues Festival
The City of Jackson is proud to host the 2014 Jackson Rhythm and Blues Festival Aug. 16-19 at the Mississippi Agricultural Museum on Lakeland Drive.
This year's theme is "Jackson: City with Soul" and headliners include Ziggy Marley, son of legendary Reggae star Bob Marley, 2004 American Idol-winner FANTASiA and 90's hip-hop group Bell Biv DeVoe.

Ridgeland Creative Craft Camp
Teenagers 13 to 15-years-old can take a hand-crafted journey through the world of memories. They will learn the history of each of the crafts and personalize each piece with memorable pieces of their own.
Master craftsmen from around the state will gather to teach your child a variety of crafts, including pottery, fiber, wire sculpture, mosaics, fused glass and much more. A reception will be held Friday, Aug. 8, from noon to 1 p.m. to show off the artwork created at the camp.
Cost is $185 for the first child and $160 for the second (within the same family).

Madison Chamber's Business A.M.

Mississippi Horsefest 2014
Mississippi Horsefest 2014 will take place at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center on the Mississippi State Fairgrounds in Jackson beginning Friday, Aug. 8 at 4 p.m. Events will include barrel racing, bull riding, pee wee barrels, calf roping, a trail ride, a gaited horse show, a horsemanship seminar and more.
Tickets are $10 per day, $15 for a weekend pass. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Share A Life Foundation and both Aaron Coker and the Jason Miller Band will perform. For more information, contact 601-906-1386.
North Madison County Excel By 5, in conjunction with Canton Parks and Recreation, will host a Back-to-School event on from 9 a.m. to noon at the Canton Multipurpose and Equine Center.
Excel will be giving away free book bags and school supplies for preschool and kindergarteners as long as supplies last. Booths will also be set up to provide parents information and an awareness of different resources that are available to children and families. Parents must accompany children under 5 in order to receive the free backpack and school supplies.
Just Have a Ball 5K
Join Fleet Feet Sports and other sponsors for this fun-filled event that begins and ends at Fleet Feet Sports in Ridgeland. Proceeds will be donated to The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi - a non-profit that raises awareness for childhood obesity in the Magnolia State.
Awards will be given to the top male and female runners and walkers in overall and masters categories. Age group awards will be given for first place in 10 different year age groups for both female and male walkers and runners.
Race will start at 7:30 a.m., with packet pickup running from 3-6 p.m. on Aug. 8. Day-of-the-race registration will also be available. Participants can register online at www.raceit.com/register/?event=28011.

Premier Bridal Summer Show
Brides can plan their wedding with one-stop shopping at Central Mississippi's premier bridal show on Aug. 10 at the Central Hilton Jackson & Convention Center. From 1-4 p.m., Mississippi's top wedding professionals gather beneath one roof to help plan any wedding.
Attendees can register for great door prizes and enjoy sampling galore from area caterers, venues and bakers. Admission is $17 for those who pre-register; $20 at the door. The staff asks that strollers be left at home.

"Murder In the Key of Motown"
Fringe Dinner Theatre, an affiliate of the Mississippi Murder Mysteries, is partnering with Rossini Cucina Italiana in Ridgeland to offer patrons the tale of Jack Russell and the Terriers - a washed up Motown band still trying to get gigs in the 1980s.
The audience is invited to sing along as the band attempts to perform snippets of Top 40 hits in the style of artist from Motown to the totally awesome 1980's.
Miss. Murder Mysteries, a professional murder mystery troupe based in Jackson, has been entertaining audiences throughout the region for nearly a decade.

Voices of Freedom
Join the Mississippi Museum of Art in Aug. for a ticketed dramatic performance of Voices of Freedom by Frank Kuhn in conjunction with current exhibition, This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement. The performance will be produced by John Maxwell's Fish Tale Group Theater from 7:30-9 p.m. on Thursday through Sunday. Performances will also take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Bright Lights Belhaven Nights street festival
The 10th anniversary of Bright Lights Belhaven Nights street festival will be Saturday, Aug. 16 in the historic Belhaven Neighborhood.
Named a Top 20 Event in the Southeast for the month of Aug. by the Southeast Tourism Society, this family friendly event will feature live music on five stages as well as art vendors and food from local restaurants.
