MS Girlchoir auditions
The Mississippi Girlchoir (MGC) is now scheduling auditions for the 2013-2014 season. Girls entering grades 3-12 are invited to audition.
Audition dates are as follows: May 21, 201,3 from 4:-5:30 p.m. and June 4, 2013 from 3-5 p.m. Auditions will take place at the Mississippi Girlchoir office located at 1991 Lakeland Drive, Suite M, Jackson.
The audition fee is $25.
Jeep Jenkins turns 87
Jeep Jenkins is coming back to Ridgeland to celebrate his 87th birthday and will share his memories of Ridgeland of days gone by.
The celebration is at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Ridgeland.
Heatwave Classic Triathlon
Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi and Ridgeland Recreation & Parks will host the 28th annual Heatwave Classic Triathlon.
This year's race will consist of a half mile swim in the Ross Barnett Reservoir, a 24-and-a-half mile bike ride along the scenic and historic Natchez Trace Parkway, and ending with a 10K run along Ridgeland's heavily shaded Multi-Purpose Trail. Participants may register online at www.heatwavetri.racesonline.com.
iCan Bike Camp
iCan Shine, a non-profit organization that teaches individuals with disabilities to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle, is holding a five-day camp, June 3-7 at Ridgeland High School.
To be eligible to enroll, riders must be at least eight years old, have a disability and be able to walk without an assistive device such as a walker or cane. Riders must be able to side-step quickly to both sides.
Riders must have a minimum inseam measurement of 20 inches and weigh no more than 220 pounds.
Cost of the camp is $75.
Participants may register at the Ridgeland Recreation and Parks office located in City Hall.

MS Wind Symphony
The Mississippi Wind Symphony will present the first concert of its 2013 season on Tuesday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ridgeland High School Auditorium in Ridgeland.
This concert, entitled "American Scenes" will feature Peter Mennin's Canzona, Donald Grantham's Southern Harmony, Mark Camphouse's A Movement for Rosa, Charles Ives's Old Home Days Suite, Aaron Copland's El Salon Mexico, and Sousa's The Liberty Bell.
Please join us for this exciting program of great wind music.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Fishing is the perfect way to slow down from life's hectic pace and enjoy your family, and what better time to do that than Father's Day weekend. On Saturday, June 15, join the City of Ridgeland Recreation & Parks Department for the 17th Annual Father-Child Fishing Tournament at Old Trace Park on the beautiful Ross Barnett Reservoir.
There is no charge to participate in this tournament and prizes will be awarded for Biggest Fish, Most Fish and Smallest Fish.
The fun begins at 8 a.m. with judging taking place at 10 a.m. This tournament is a joint partnership with the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District and the City of Ridgeland Recreation & Parks Department.
And, yes, moms are welcome.
The Madison County Mystery Readers will meet at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 11 at the Ridgeland Public Library.

Bright Lights Belhaven
The 9th annual Bright Lights Belhaven Nights street festival will be Saturday, Aug. 10 in the historic Belhaven Neighborhood.
Named a Top 20 Event in the Southeast for the month of August by the Southeast Tourism Society, this family friendly event will feature live music on five stages as well as art vendors and food from local restaurants.
Children of all ages will enjoy our special children's activities area.
Tickets are $5 per person and are available for purchase at the event. Festival hours are 5:30-9:30 p.m.
