Coat drive to benefit needy families

As winter approaches and cooler weather gradually continues to flank the area, it is the perfect opportunity for those looking to clean out their closets to donate any gently used coats to those in need this year.
Madison Countians Allied Against Poverty (MadCAAP) is seeking donations to help families in the area stay warm this holiday season.
"We desperately need coats, and we will take as many as people will come and donate," said MadCAAP Representative, Karen Robinson. "We service a couple 100 families every month through our clothing closet and we are just desperate for heavy coats right now, hoodies, pullovers and those sorts of things."
There are currently three drop off locations for the donations for those looking to help: the office of John D. Moore, Attorney, 301 Highland Cove Suite B in Ridgeland; Jon Hammet, Allstate office in Madison at 965 Highway 51; and Robin Covington, State Farm Agency in Gluckstadt, 118 Weisenberger Road.
MaddCAAP currently services over 3,500 families living in poverty in Madison County this being the first countywide coat drive.
"We've always had a coat drive, we've just never done one county wide, because everyone is involved in Thanksgiving and really busy so we just wanted to make sure we were able to get the word out and that's why we decided to make it countywide," Robinson said.
Drop off times are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the participating businesses. For more information about the coat drive or donations please visit www.madcaap.org.
