MADISON — A manhunt was still under way for a suspect who led police on a high-speed chase towing a stolen camper who crashed where Old Canton Road dead-ends at Hoy Road.

Two schools were lockdown this morning as the man fled on foot about 10 a.m.

Reservoir Patrol attempted a traffic stop the man, described as a white male in his early 30’s with blonde hair.

He failed to stop and proceeded west across the dam on Spillway Road before turning north on Old Canton Road and heading for Madison.

The suspect lost control when he attempted to turn right on Hoy Road, sending the vehicle and the trailer into a grassy area on the north side of the road.

The suspect then fled on foot, wearing a long light blue t-shirt and black or dark blue shorts.

Police from Madison, Ridgeland and Reservoir PD, as well as sheriff’s deputies from Rankin and Madison are assisting in the search.

Police are also asking for the public’s help in apprehending the suspect, asking anyone who sees a person who matches the description to call Madison police at (601) 856-6111.

Both Madison Avenue Lower Elementary and Upper were on lockdown
